Theatre goers will be transported back to 1890 and say “Hello, Dolly!” to the story of “Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi” as “Hello, Dolly!” takes the stage at The Elbert Theatre this weekend.

Bowman Highway crash leaves one dead, injured

A two-car collision on Bowman Highway (Georgia Highway 17) early Sunday morning, that is suspected to involve driving under the influence, left one driver dead and the other seriously injured, according to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

Judge Hewell named Rising Star

Earlier this month, during its annual Spring Conference held in Athens, the Council of Probate Court Judges of Georgia honored Judge Stephanie Hewell as the recipient of the 2023 Rising Star award.

The Elbert Theatre Director Toni King was the drawing winner for The Elberton Star’s Community Choice Awards ballot contest. The Star received thousands of votes during the voting period in March, and those who cast ballots were entered into a drawing for a chance to win $100.

Commissioners drop ‘interim’

Allen Hulme was unanimously approved as the  new County Administrator by the Elbert County Board of Commissioners during Monday night’s meeting. Hulme has served as interim county administrator after Phil Pitts resigned from the position in February.

Growing green for the FFA plant sale

The Elbert County Comprehensive High School FFA Club will continue their spring plate sale through Friday, April 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. The sale is being held at the high school, located at 600 Abernathy Circle.

Chamber to hold annual banquet Thursday night

The Elbert County Chamber of Commerce will host its 99th annual chamber banquet Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Historic Rock Gym. Tickets are $40 each and include dinner and two drink tickets. Tickets can be purchased online at www.elbertchamber.com or by calling 706-283-5651.

ATC dedicates Tom McCall Agriscience Center

Hospital marks one month with Taylor at helm

The Elbert Memorial Hospital (EMH) Authority heard its first official report from new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tyler Taylor during its March 28 meeting. The meeting marked a month and a day since Taylor took over as the new CEO the day before the authority’s February meeting.
