New year brings merged courts

“Probate/Magistrate Court.” These are the first words Elbert County citizens will now hear when dialing the Elbert County Probate or Magistrate Court phone numbers as the offices were merged beginning Jan. 1.

Advantage Elbert holds open house to showcase center renovations

Advantage Elbert’s Intellectual/Development Disabilities (IDD) Service Center held an open house Dec. 28 to celebrate and share accomplishments of enhancements to the Intellectual and Developmental Disability program to include new painting and flooring.

Freezing and flooding for Christmas

Simmons and Scoggins end over 30 years of service

After 33 years of working in the Elbert County Magistrate Court office, Chief Magistrate Judge Lanie Simmons will retire from public service Dec. 31.

Freddie Baker honored for 50 years of federal employment

After 50 years of employment by the United States Government, including time in the Air Force, United States Postal Service and the Southeastern Power Administration (SEPA), Freddie Baker has retired, marking the end of a career of service for others.

Elbert native pens new book on county’s namesake

One of Elbert County’s own has recently penned a book that uncovers new details about Samuel Elbert’s life and uses them to put Georgia’s relationship with the American Revolution into perspective nearly 250 years later.
