Voting for the inaugural Community Choice Awards will end this Friday, March 24, at noon. Sponsored by The Elberton Star, the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce and WSGC Radio, the awards will highlight the community’s choice for the best of the best in Elbert County.

Road resurfacing coming soon

Over $2 million in funds collected through Elbert County’s transportation special purpose local option sales tax (TSPLOST) will soon be put back into the county roads after the Elbert County Board of Commissioners approved a bid for resurfacing Monday night.

Superintendent switch approved

Superintendent Jon Jarvis’ retirement was officially approved by the Elbert County Board of Education (BOE) during a March 7 called meeting. Jarvis is set to retire May 31, a month earlier than his previously-announced June 30 retirement date.

Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion reaches key milestone

ARDEO makes drug bust

A residence in Bowman was the scene of a drug bust by the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) Feb. 28 in which two people were arrested for possessing over four pounds of drugs, money and a weapon.

Leading Region 10 EMS Directors

Elbert County Emergency Services Director Chuck Almond has been named President of the Northeast Georgia Region 10 EMS Directors Association. The announcement was made by the Association March 3.
