The Elbert County Comprehensive High School flag football program may still be in its infancy, but it’s already produced one college athlete.

City of Elberton receives historic grant

The City of Elberton announced the largest grant funding in its history at its monthly council meeting Monday. Elberton has been approved for $45 million in funding from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority under the Helene Resiliency Funding Program.

Egg hunt takes over Elberton's Sutton Park

The City of Elberton hosted its annual Easter Eggstravaganza April 2, with over 9,000 eggs found by egg hunters. After the event outgrew its previous location in Sutton Square, the egg hunt was moved to Sutton Park, where hundreds of children participated.

The Elberton Star, WSGC to hold April 30 political forum

The Elberton Star and WSGC Radio have announced that they will be hosting a political forum for the upcoming May 19 general primaries. The political forum is scheduled to be held April 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Elbert County Government Complex.

Diamond Devils extend win streak ahead of massive Banks series

The Elbert County baseball team is red-hot, having ripped off nine consecutive victories to improve to 19-6 overall including a 14-2 mark in region play. The Diamond Devils swept Rabun County last week, first taking a Tuesday road game 7-3 before hosting a doubleheader back in Elberton Friday.

Elbert County track & field hosts home meet

Elbert County track and field hosted its home meet last Tuesday, welcoming the Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy, Putnam County and Oglethorpe County.Both the Elbert boys’ and girls’ teams finished second place behind Oglethorpe in their respective cumulative team rankings.

It’s postseason time for the Elbert County slow pitch softball team.The Lady Devils finished their regular season 7-3, capping off the campaign with a pair of blowout victories in a doubleheader against Johnson County Wednesday.

Poon undefeated as Elbert tennis wraps up regular season

Elbert County tennis played its final matches of the regular season last week at home against Commerce and at Lincoln County.Both the boys’ and girls’ teams lost on the road at Commerce, each falling 4-1.The Lincoln County match went similarly for the boys’ team, with a 4-1 loss.
