Students returned to Elbert County Schools Friday

Elbert County Schools got back underway Friday after Summer Break, bringing a start to the 2026-2027 school year. Superintendent Robert Wheeler said that 2,887 students were enrolled in the district as of the July 31 start date.

The Elberton/Mure Cho Sister City student exchange program is underway and the Japanese delegation has arrived in Elbert County.According to an itinerary provided by Tom Evans, Japanese students, Tomoki Arioka and Anna Kubo, and chaperone Yoko Morita, arrived in Atlanta July 20.

Graves elected to MEAG Power board at annual meeting

MEAG Power today announced that Elberton, Ga., Mayor R. Daniel Graves has been elected to the MEAG Power Board. Graves has been mayor of Elberton since 2022 and currently serves as a business development officer with Oconee State Bank, as well as maintaining a limited private legal practice.

Main Street Elberton hosted the annual Cruise-In Car Show and Granite Bowl Blast July 18 on the Elberton square. Over 140 hot rods, classic cars and more flocked to the city to show off for a packed square of car enthusiasts.
