Five-year low millage rate approved

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners approved its lowest millage rate in the last five years for both incorporated and unicorporated areas of the county during Monday night’s regular meeting. Set at 9.750 mills for unincorporated areas and 10.

City delays approving ARPA fund projects

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   The Elberton City Council voted 4-0 to postpone amending the 2023 fiscal year (FY) budget to reflect the city’s expenditures from the second tranche of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding during Monday night’s meeting.

‘It’s like losing a grandmother,’ Queen Elizabeth II dies

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in British history, died Thursday, Sept. 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at the age of 96. The queen, who celebrated her Platinum Jubilee earlier this year, also claimed the title of the second-longest serving monarch in world history.

Bowman to host annual Fall Festival Sept. 24

The City of Bowman will hold their annual Fall Festival Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the downtown Bowman square. The festival will include a variety of foods, cake walks, yard sales, raffle prizes, arts and crafts, music and more. Entertainment will be held throughout the day.
