CASA to begin training July 26

Northeast Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children in foster care will hold a training in Elberton beginning July 26  for those interested in volunteering.

GSP post honored for DUI enforcement

Local Georgia State Patrol Post 52 was named the Post of the Year at the 18th Annual MADD Georgia Golden Shield Honors held June 15. The awards celebrate and recognize law enforcement officers and agencies, DUI prosecutors and community advocates who help keep roads safe.

Betas are national champions

Elbert County’s Beta Clubs are once again national champions as the middle and high school clubs brought home eight of the top awards in the nation during the club’s convention in Nashville, Tennessee June 30 through July 4.

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners met behind closed doors during Monday night’s meeting to discuss the “disposing of county property” related to the Georgia Guidestones.

District 1 seat receives handful of applicants

A handful of citizens have submitted their names to be considered to serve the remaining term of the District 1 commission seat on the Elbert County Board of Commissioners. The seat was vacated by the passing of former long-time commissioner Horace Harper June 10.

The Elberton Star has released a special edition surrounding the recent bombing and demolition of the Georgia Guidestones. The edition includes a history of the monument, historical and submitted photos as well as other news stories and community reactions.

Alleged time capsule disproved

Despite the granite plaque at the Georgia Guidestones advertising a time capsule was allegedly buried at the site, there was no evidence of any buried history when digging occurred Friday morning.
