Early voting concludes with May 19 Election Day

Election Day for the general primary election was held yesterday after over 1,300 voters voted early. Due to poll closure occurring after press time Tuesday, Election Day coverage will be available in the May 27 edition of The Elberton Star.

Emily Poon named region girls’ tennis player of the year

Elbert County Comprehensive High School senior Emily Poon was named Region 8A Division I Girls’ Tennis Player of the Year after a strong 2026 season, it was announced last week.Poon was dominant in her final season as a Lady Devil, posting a 15-0 singles record.

Lady Devils’ Kaylen Rucker signs to play college basketball at Columbia International University

Elbert County Comprehensive High School senior and Lady Devils guard Kaylen Rucker is officially continuing her basketball career at the collegiate level.Rucker signed her letter of intent Wednesday afternoon to play basketball at Columbia International University in a ceremony held at ECCHS.

Elbert County track & field competes in GHSA state championships

The Elbert County boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in the GHSA GHSA A Division I state championships last week, held Tuesday at the Spec Towns Track at the University of Georgia.

Elbert County soccer has three All-Region selections

Three Elbert County soccer players were named All-Region selections last week, with Ronny and Alvin Medellin representing the boys’ team and Kendall Hudson selected for the girls’ team.Junior midfielder Ronny Medellin headlined the selections with a second-team nod.

Elbert County track teams advance to state

Elbert County secured 18 qualifications for the 2026 GHSA state track and field championships at the A Division I Sectional B May 4 in Bremen.The top eight finishers in each event qualify for the state championships, which were held Tuesday at the University of Georgia track complex.

Diamond Devils’ season ends in Elite 8

Elbert County baseball came up short against Bleckley County in the Elite 8 of the GHSA Class A Division 1 state tournament last week, dropping both games against the Royals on Wednesday. It ended the Blue Devils’ deepest playoff run since 2018.
