City receives $1.25 million 'grant,' largest to-date

The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) has awarded the City of Elberton with a $2.5 million Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) loan to “finance improving the city’s water system,” according to a Jan. 29 press release from GEFA.

Hospital ends first half of year in black

Elbert Memorial Hopsital (EMH) ended the first half of the 2024 fiscal year with a positive bottom line of over half a million dollars, up from being nearly a million in the red this time last year.

Quarrying a four-legged rescue

Members of Elbert County Emergency Services (EMS), the Elbert County Fire Department and the Elbert County Sheriff's Office made a gallant four-legged rescue in the depths of a quarry Jan. 27.
According to EMS Director Chuck Almond, the Elbert County E911 center received a call around 7:50 a.m.

Council sparks controversy over clerk

The City of Bowman is expected to hold a called meeting Thursday at 5 p.m. to revisit a nomination for city clerk, according to Mayor Scott Harpold, after the nomination was not accepted by council members during Monday night's meeting.

Franklin County poultry developer Aubery Lunsford, through his attorney Daniel Moore, of Hartwell, has filed a "motion to set aside, motion to vacate, or in the alternative, motion to reconsider," in a lawsuit against the City of Bowman and Lunsford by Arthur and Jennifer Lane.
