Bowman celebrates Jerri Elrod’s service

The City of Bowman threw a surprise reception to honor Public Works Director Jerri Elrod for her 36 years of service to the city Monday, May 1. Elrod was presented with a commemorative t-shirt along with a resolution from the city thanking her for her 36 years of service.
Elbert County Comprhehensive High School senior and Elbert County Blue Devil Marching Band feature twirler Lyndsie Acker is one of the newest majorettes for the Clemson University Tigers. Acker submitted an audition video for Clemson in March and received an invitation to live auditions held on the Clemson campus on April 15. She auditioned in competition with twirlers from all over the country and was selected as 1 of the 10 Tiger Twirlers that will perform with the Tiger Band this Fall.

The City of Elberton approved a splash pad project that will be similar to the above 3D rendering from Vortex International. The 5,000 square foot project will include the splash pad with 40 water spray features, two slides and a dumping bucket as well as restrooms, a parking area and fencing.

The Elberton City Council voted 3-2, with council members Carey Butler and Troy Colquitt voting opposed, to approve and authorize the Elberton Splash Park Recreation Center Project during Monday night’s meeting.

A nearly $500,000 training facility for the Elberton Fire Department is set to be built off of Calhoun Falls Highway after being approved by the Elberton City Council during Monday night’s meeting.

Nearly one year ago, Elbert County native Emily McLanahan was on vacation in Mexico when she received the text of a lifetime from her boss at FOX Sports. McLanahan had won the highest award in television – an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Televesion Arts and Sciences.
