Commissioners to approve millage rate Thursday

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to approve the 2023 millage rate during a called meeting Thursday. The meeting will be held following the third public hearing at 5:45 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room in the Elbert County Government Complex located at 45 Forest Ave.
The Elberton Salvartion Army Emergency Disaster Services team is lending helping hands in Valdosta following damages due to Hurricane Idalia. Team member PJo Phelps said the group is helping to feed 600 to 700 people a day as the city experienced “a lot of destruction and power outage.” Pictured helping in Valdosta are (L-R) Joe Johnson, Phelps and Ann Hendrix.

Bailey doing well following ‘miraculous’ heart transplant

Bowman leaves funding to park, makes no motion for compliance

The Bowman City Council made no moves to use American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to help the city get into compliance with the state on their budget and audit, even after a recommendation from Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) consultant Sherri Bailey during the Aug. 28 regular meeting.

Search warrant executed on Welcome Church Road

A search warrant was executed by federal agencies on Welcome Church Road Aug. 23, the United States District Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado confirmed Monday. The office declined to comment on any other details surrounding the search.
