Bowman Fall Festival, bingo night this weekend

The City of Bowman will hold its annual fall festival and bingo night this weekend. Bingo night will kickoff the weekend Friday, Sept. 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bowman Community Center. Cost is $20 for an all-night game and $5 for any additional card.

The Elbert County Comprehensive High School JROTC Raider teams brought home first and a third place finishes as the mixed and female teams competed in a meet hosted in Winder Sept. 16.

$4.89 million construction cost set

A $4.89 million speculative building is set to be constructed in the Elberton Industrial Park after the Elberton City Council unanimously approved a resolution to authorize City Manager Lanier Dunn to accept a bid package from M.B.

Millage rates set

The 2023 millage rates are now set after the Elbert County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 to approve the county’s millage rates during a called meeting Sept. 7. Commissioner Casey Freeman voted in opposition of the rates.

County approves increased tipping, bag fees

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved increased tipping fees and an increase for yellow and blue trash bags during Monday night’s meeting. Tipping fees at the Elbert County Solid Waste facility will now be $65 per ton, up from $56 per ton.

Bowman man dies following single vehicle accident

A Bowman man died as the result of a single vehicle accident Sept. 5 on Highway 172 near King Hall Mill Road in Bowman. Bobby Lynn Maxwell, 58, of Bowman, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Beth Seymour, according to the Elbert County Coroner’s Office.
