Cruising through the rain and ‘shine

Main Street Elberton, the Downtown Development Authority and ElbertonNET hosted the 25th Annual Cruise-In and Classic Car Show featuring The Granite Bowl Blast July 15 on the Elberton Square. The square was packed full of both classic and new cars and an abundance of vendors.

County looking to pick up mills

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners is looking at picking up less than a quarter of a mill in order to come close to balancing the 2024 fiscal year (FY) budget, County Administrator Allen Hulme announced during Monday’ budget hearing.

Bowman hires attorney, holding hearings

Doug Kidd will return to the City of Bowman after the Bowman City Council voted 3-1 to hire Kidd as the new city attorney during a called meeting July 12.  Kidd was previously the city attorney in the early 2000s.

Students to return to school Aug. 1, open houses scheduled

After a summer that saw expansions totaling a combined 95,000 square feet at both Elbert County Elementary school and the former Beaverdam Elementary School, Wheeler said the district is “extremely excited” to kick off the new school year.

A small single-propeller aircraft crashed at the end of the Patz Field runway at Elbert County Airport July 12, after a mechanical issue during takeoff.

Calling for a TSPLOST referendum

The Elbert County Board of Commissions took the first step Monday in calling for a special election in November for Elbert County voters to decide whether or not to continue collecting a one percent transportation special purpose local sales tax (TSPLOST).

Commissioners to hold first budget hearing Monday

The first budget hearing for the Elbert County Board of Commissioners’ 2024 proposed fiscal year (FY) budget is scheduled for Monday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held in the commissioners’ meeting room inside the Elbert County Government Complex located at 45 Forest Ave.
