New supervisor gives update on animal control

Elbert County Animal Control is accepting animals and is in good standing with the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA), Animal Control Officer Taylor Hart informed the Elbert County Board of Commissioners during Monday night’s meeting.

Millage rate concerns echoed at final BOE hearing

The third and final hearing to discuss the Board of Education’s (BOE) proposed millage rate saw a total of 16 people in attendance Aug. 10 to echo concerns after the first two hearings July 27 were lightly attended.
The BOE is proposing to lower the millage rate from 14.

Terms for Elberton City Council members Terry Burton in Ward 2 and Troy Colquitt in Ward 3, and Bowman City Council members Pat Elrod and Henrietta Williams will expire as of Dec.

Seeking approval for budget, millage

The Elbert County Board of Education (BOE) and Elbert County Board of Commissioners are scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss the respective entities’ millage rate and budget for the coming year.
The BOE is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. for a third public hearing on the millage rate.

Oconee Financial Corporation announced Aug. 1 it completed its acquisition of Elberton Federal Savings and Loan Association of Elberton and its related common stock offering, in a conversion merger transaction, effective July 31.

Hearing citizen concerns

A handful of Elbert County residents attended the Elbert County Board of Education’s (BOE) two scheduled tax hearings July 27 after the district proposed a millage rate that would leave taxpayers seeing “an increase in property taxes by 20.25 percent over the roll-back rate percent.

Students returned to school for the 2023-2024 academic year and to the former Beaverdam Elementary School Tuesday, Aug. 1. Now home of Elbert County Primary School (ECPS), the former Beaverdam Elementary is now being inhabited by students and teachers for the first time in over a decade.
