ECPS goes back to school at Beaverdam

The former Beaverdam Elementary School has been repurposed as the new Elbert County Primary School as it gets ready to open its doors to students for the first time in 12 years Aug. 1. “Just based on the turnout at our ribbon cutting ceremony, that school meant a whole lot to a lot of people.

Students will return Aug.1 to the new Elbert County Primary School, bringing school traffic to Ruckersville Road for the first time in over 10 years.

BOE to hold budget hearings Thursday

The Elbert County Board of Education is scheduled to hold the first two of its three public hearings before voting to approve a millage rate that would cause Elbert County taxpayers to pay “an increase  in property taxes by 20.25 percent over the roll-back rate percent” Thursday.
Elbert County Emergency Services (EMS) Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) volunteer members include (L-R) Alex Valderrama, Joe Colvard, EMS Training and Operations Supervisor Tim Bohannon and Josh Carrington. The group of 14 total members is looking for new members to help serve the community through the ARES organization. Main Street Elberton, the Downtown Development Authority and ElbertonNET hosted the 25th Annual Cruise-In and Classic Car Show featuring The Granite Bowl Blast July 15 on the Elberton Square. The square was packed full of both classic and new cars and an abundance of vendors.

County looking to pick up mills

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners is looking at picking up less than a quarter of a mill in order to come close to balancing the 2024 fiscal year (FY) budget, County Administrator Allen Hulme announced during Monday’ budget hearing.
