A pair of state awards were recently bestowed locally to the Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) cafeteria staff and Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course.
The ECCHS cafeteria was awarded the Georgia Department of Education’s School Nutrition Division’s Cafeteria Award of Excellence Oct. 5.
“This award recognizes the commitment to serving quality menu standards, service of Georgia Grown products, student meal participation, school nutrition promotion plans, and health inspection scores,” School Nutrition Director Bridgette Matthews said.
The ECCHS cafeteria was the only cafeteria in Elbert County’s Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) region to receive the award, although Matthews said up to three could be awarded to each RESA region.
ECCHS School Nutrition Manager Janet Ingle, along with her staff, were presented the award from members of the Georgia Department of Education’s School Nutrition Division Oct. 5.
The award was applied for earlier this year, and Sue Perry from the state department read the group a portion of a letter of support for the application from former Superintendent Jon Jarvis that praised the work of the school nutrition program (SNP).
“Our lunch participation in Elbert County is very high, especially at ECCHS. The data shows 65 percent participation at ECCHS, but with the higgh number of work-based learning and dual enrollement students who are not in the building during lunch service, the percentage of participation of students who are actually present in school is much higher,” Jarvis wrote. “The participation of our students is a direct reflection of the SNP team’s commitment to listening and providing excellent customer service. They work to ensure that students know this his/her opinion matters.”
