BOE proposes slight raise in property taxes

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com    The Elbert County Board of Education (BOE) announced Monday they will not roll back the millage rate for the 2025 tax year, which will result in a .92 percent increase in local property taxes.

EMH CEO calls for investment in hospital's future

After presenting end-of-year financials and an overview of Elbert Memorial Hospital’s (EMH) impact on the community, EMH Chief Executive Officer Tyler Taylor said that a conversation needs to be had with the city and county leadership about how to invest in the hospital in the  future.

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com    Elbert County may soon have a new grocery option with the addition of a Dollar General Market after a proposed plan by Southwest Elberton, LLC was unanimously approved by the Elbert County Board of Commissioners (BOC) Monday night.
Charging through the first run-through sign of the season, the ECCHS Blue Devils take the field at the Friday Night Lights Community Kickoff Friday, Aug. 9 in the Granite Bowl. The Devils ran various plays and drills and had a practice scrimmage during the event while fans watched from the stands. Also on hand this season's new cheerleading squads, band and auxiliary members and youth league football and cheerleading squads. (Photo by Weeks)

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com   It's time for Blue Devil Football in Elberton's historic Granite Bowl.  The True Blue Athletic Booster Club hosted a Friday Night Lights Kickoff event Friday, Aug. 9 with support from the ECCHS Athletic Department.
Third grader Gabby Ray is ready to start the new school year as she waits for the bus to take her to Elberton Elementary. "I was a little nervous, but my first day was great. Missing local man found deceased

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com    A Code RED Alert was issued  Thursday, Aug. 1 for an elderly Bowman resident who was reported missing by his family. Leon Dobbs, 86, was last seen around 9 a.m. and was reported missing at 2:31 p.m.
