Early voting, candidate forum dates announced

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com    In preparation for the November 5 local, state and national elections, the Elbert County Elections office released the following information: Advanced voting will take place October 15 through November 1 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.

ECCHS student Jaukeem Fortson to appear on NBC’s ‘The Voice’

Local singing sensation Jaukeem Fortson will appear in the upcoming season of NBC’s “The Voice.”  Fortson recently won the grand prize of $20,000 after finishing first out of 10 finalists in the fourth annual Hallelujah Auditions held in Burlington, Iowa May 18.

Student arrested for making terroristic threats

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com    Following a school shooting with multiple casualties at a Georgia high school in Barrow County on Sept. 4, a local 14 year-old juvenile was charged with making terroristic threats to Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) Saturday, Sept.

City approves pad for new fire facility

The City Council of the City of Elberton approved just under $350,000 worth of purchases during their Sept. 9 regular meeting, including a concrete apron for the new fire training facility being constructed off of Calhoun Falls Highway.

Residents evacuated after tanker catches fire

Elberton Walmart completes remodel

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com   Elberton Walmart #1701 celebrated the completion of a major remodeling of its location in Elberton Wednesday, Aug. 30.  The 57,000 square foot store underwent a 13-week transformation that adds significant updates and enhancements.

Sheriff announces major drug bust

An Elbert County resident and a Hart County resident were arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine after a routine traffic stop Aug. 20.
