University of Georgia art students representing Color the World Bright recently updated the Keep Elbert County Beautiful office on Church Street with a mural. The painting of murals is part of the group’s ongoing efforts to provide beautification elements to communities around the state.

Elbert County Comprehensive  High School freshman Jaukeem Fortson saw three judges' chairs turn during his blind audition on the Oct. 7 episode of NBC's "The Voice."  Fortson will continue on after to the battle rounds which begin Oct. 21.  Fans cheered Fortson on during the Oct.

ECPRD creates Friends of McWilliams Park non-profit

Elbert County Parks and Recreation Department (ECPRD) Director Tim Gaines announced the creation of a new 501(c)(3) named Friends of McWilliams Park, which will serve as the fundraising arm for the recreation department.  “Its going to be all-encompassing for our program,” Gaines said.

19th Jimmy Johnson Golf Classic sees record turnout

The Elbert Memorial Hospital Foundation hosted the 19th Annual Jimmy Johnson Golf Classic Oct. 4 and saw a record turnout of 31 teams during the event.  The tournament was an 18-hole, four-man Lauderdale-style tournament with handicaps that was hosted at Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course at Richard B.

Jean Worley is living proof that mammograms save lives

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com   Jean Worley went for a  routine annual mammogram in January at Elbert Memorial Hospital (EMH)  only to discover she had a small cancerous lump which she could not have found doing regular self-checks.
