Bowman gas customers will see increase in April

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com   Bowman gas customers will see an increase to their base gas rates beginning with the April bill. Bowman City Council members voted unanimously for the increase at the Feb. 12 meeting.

Asa Williams, son of Lacy and J. Brian Williams, has been named the Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) STAR Student for 2024-2025. Asa selected Alton Smith, his Accelerated Pre-Calculus teacher, as his STAR Teacher.
Winners in the 2025 Miss ECCHS Pageant include (L-R) Lila Layne (second runner-up), Makayla McKnight (Miss ECCHS), Leah Higginbotham (first runner-up) and Bailee Starrett (third runner-up).

Boat crash on Lake Russell under investigation

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com   The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR) is investigating a boating incident reported by Elbert County Emergency Services Sunday in which two boats collided in the area of Pearl Mill and Middleton boat ramps.

Two thirds of Georgia's school systems set to opt out of HB581

Splash pad bid finally approved

The City of Elberton voted 3-2, with Council Members Troy Colquitt and Carey Butler voting in opposition, to approve a bid from Cirrus Construction Inc. in the amount of $2,033,339 to complete the splash pad being constructed off of North McIntosh Street on the site of the old senior league field.

By Julie Weeks jweeks@elberton.com   Marti Love Terrell was a normal preschooler who did normal things. She rode horses, spent the night away  and played with friends. “Normal” stopped when she was in kindergarten. She began waking up early and vomiting for no apparent reason.
