City approves budget after changes

The Elberton City Council unanimously approved their FY 2026 budget June 16 after a number of changes were made to the proposed budget that was presented June 2.  The approved budget totals $44,078,309, which is down from the proposed amount of $44,160,361.

Bowman council seats filled

The City of Bowman has a full city council again after city residents elected two new members to the city council in a special election May 27.  In the race to fill the seat vacated by Betty Jo Maxwell, Julie Williams had the edge as she totaled 100 votes while her opponent, Maxwell, had 16.

The City of Elberton celebrated the Elbert County Comprehensive High School boys and girls golf teams with a proclamation after their performance in the Class A Division 1 GHSA State Championship May 19 and May 20.

Shokoa Plummer to 'Wake Up' the stage

Elberton native Shokoa Plummer is set to bring an original production to center stage of the Elbert Theatre as "Wake Up" is set to debut June 7.  "I wrote this play over 15 years ago, so its a revised version and is titled "Wake Up: Hell is Real," Plummer said.
