Deja vu: Bowman mayor Pete Gibbons ‘emails’ resignation

Pete Gibbons will resign from his position as mayor effective Jan. 1, 2020. Carla Patten, mayor pro tem, announced Gibbons sent an email to City Clerk Crystal Duck and City Attorney Richard Campbell that he was resigning from his position but did not give a reason why.

HEART program funds lagging

Georgia HEART (Helping Enhance Access to Rural Treatment) Hospital Program representatives Rosalyn Merrick and Meghan Meyer met with local officials last week to explain a state tax program that helps funding for rural hospitals, including Elbert Memorial Hospital.

AT&T offering fixed wireless internet in Bowman

The Elbert County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with AT&T, hosted a “Broadband, BBQ and Beyond” event at the Bowman Community Center Dec. 5 in order to inform citizens about the fixed wireless internet services AT&T offers.

Commission approves roads on its LMIG list

At its regularly scheduled meeting Monday night, the Elbert County Board of Commissioners approved a list of roads for the 2020 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) through the GA DOT that will make repairs to almost eight miles of six county roads.

Full roster on council

Seats on the Bowman City Council are once again full as Mary Clark was officially sworn into her position at the regular monthly meeting Nov. 25. Probate Judge Stephanie Hewell attended the meeting to give Clark her oath as the newest city council member.

The Elberton City Council approved a resolution Monday night to apply to increase a grant from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) regarding the city’s project with water sales to Madison County and improvements to the Filter Plant.

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners met in a special called meeting Wednesday, Nov. 20 to adopt the 2019 update to the Elbert County Comprehensive Plan and to approve the purchase of three vehicles for the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.
