It’s in her genetic makeup, maybe, knowing her mother was a teacher and her sister was a principal and an assistant principal in Hart County and her brother-in-law is a principal in Hart County. But at one time Elbert County Primary School Principal Rosa Harris considered going into nursing.

Back in the day, new Elbert County teacher Sandee Webb Drake poses for a photograph with one of her students, Kelli Suttles. Drake says she loved having 25 students in her classroom, since now that she’s a principal, she feels like she has a “class of 1,000.”

State presidential primary postponed The Georgia Presidential Preference Primary scheduled for March 24 has been postponed, and state officials said the presidential primary voting will be held in conjunction with the state primary coming up May 19.

A 13-minute video conversation with Elbert County Emergency Management Director Chuck Almond and Deputy Director Beth Seymour has been posted on The Elberton Star’s Facebook page.

Elbert County Commission Chairman Lee Vaughn signed a Declaration of Local Emergency at 8 a.m. Monday morning that orders the Elbert County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to activate an Emergency Operations Plan along with other implementations.

EMH alters procedures

Elbert Memorial Hospital (EMH) CEO Kerry Trapnell announced in a press release Monday at noon that beginning Tuesday, March 17, the emergency room entrance would be the only access to the hospital and that everyone who enters would “be screened for COVID-19 symptoms.

Schools closed until March 31

Elbert County School Superintendent Chuck Bell announced Monday night that Elbert County’s schools will remain closed, at least until March 31. The decision to close the schools came after a brief meeting of the board Monday night. “In accordance with newly issued federal guidance, Gov.
