Development Authority looks over first round of applicant resumes

The Development Authority of Elbert County, City of Elberton and Bowman met in a called meeting Tuesday with Tim Chason from The Chason Group to discuss the next steps in the process of hiring a President and CEO.

Property codes out, county to consider solar

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners were scheduled to discuss and approve several agenda items at Tuesday night’s regular meeting, including a conditional use permit request from Sonny Solar, LLC for a proposed solar energy farm.

Hewell celebrating special birthday

Pictures from the past (almost) 100 years hang on the wall of Martha Elizabeth Vickery Hewell’s room at Nancy Hart Nursing Center in Elberton.  The photos represent milestones of Martha’s life, from her childhood with her siblings and parents, her wedding day and photos of her two children.

Savanna Marrie Jennings, who was found guilty of seven charges including felony and malice murder on Aug. 26 for the murder of her grandfather, Otha Perrin, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Friday in Elbert County Superior Court.

City reconfigures debt on Sam Elbert Hotel

The Elberton City Council approved a new bond resolution with the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) that reduces the interest rate for the revenue refunding bond series that was made for the $4 million project in restoring the Samuel Elbert Hotel.

Providing support for ‘the biggest fight of their life’

Jenny’s Boutique, run by Jenny Jenkins, will open in Elberton Oct. 15.  The boutique, which will be housed in the Lake Russell Speciality Healthcare Services offices next to Elbert Memorial Hospital, will feature free items for cancer patients.

County sets its millage

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners voted on and approved its 2019 millage rate, along with rates for Elbert Memorial Hospital and the Elbert County Board of Education at a special called meeting Thursday, Sept. 26.
