BRVF gets ‘notice of violation’

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has issued a proposed consent order to Broad River Valley Farms (BRVF) after  the River Road farm received another “Notice of Violation” that resulted from a surprise inspection by the EPD and the Georgia Department of Agriculture (DOA) on June 6.

BRVF has no license to ‘spill’

An unexpected visit to Broad River Valley Farms by officials with the Georgia Department of Agriculture (DOA) and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) led to the revocation of LHR Farms’ fertilizer permit, Georgia House Rep. Tom McCall said Monday morning.

School board sets millage

Elbert County’s Board of Education, as expected, levied its millage at a “rollback” rate of 15.933 mills Monday night and School Board Superintendent Chuck Bell provided a preview of a big announcement concerning Elbert County Comprehensive High School’s graduation rate Wednesday morning.

Elbert County authorities have tentatively identified a person found dead in a home off Bowman Highway Sunday afternoon.

Man dies after freak crash on Athens Highway Monday

A local man died after he drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Mineral Springs Road and Athens Highway, crossed five lanes on the highway, came to rest on the CSX rail line and was hit by a train, according to a spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). Clayborn Lewis Jr.

County revenues ‘bumping up’

Elbert County had a “good month” financially, according to Chief Financial Officer Phil Pitts.  Pitts announced at the Elbert County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday night that revenue from SPLOST is up and the county is “in very good shape” with its retirement plan fund.
