Bowman council seeking grants to fix water systems

The City of Bowman could receive two grants within the next year that would allow them to increase the city’s amount of standby power and complete water system improvements after the council approved to pay Peoples and Quigley, Inc.

  As the countdown for the Elbert County school year continues toward a start date of Aug. 17, Elbert County School Superintendent Jon Jarvis said parents who want their students to stay home and practice distance learning must be signed up by Monday, July 27.

The early voting date for Saturday in the upcoming Aug. 11 Republican House District 33 runoff has been cancelled, according Elbert County Registrar Melissa Shead.

SBA releases Elbert ‘PPP’ information

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) approved loans in April and May ranging from $150,000 to $2 million for 29 businesses in Elbert County as of July 14.

Early voting in the Georgia House of Representatives District 33 Republican runoff between Elbert County’s Rob Leverett and Madison County’s Tripp Strickland will begin Monday, July 20. The runoff election day voting will be held on Aug. 11.

Aug. 17 is ECSD new start date

Saying “we don’t have all the answers,” Elbert County School Superintendent Jon Jarvis  announced the Elbert County School District is abandoning its intention to begin the school year according to its adopted 2020-2021 school calendar date of Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Fourth straight week of free COVID tests

Patrick Reilly won’t say whether or not he’ll be running a free mobile COVID-19 testing clinic in Elberton next week. When he has said that for the last two weeks, he has had to backtrack and announce yet another week of testing in the parking lot of the Elberton Civic Center.

WSGC will return to the air under local ownership

Art Sutton, President and Chief Executive Officer of Toccoa-based Georgia-Carolina Radiocasting Companies, announced last week that the company has entered into a letter-of-intent to sell WSGC Radio to Elberton businessman Stan Brown.
