Two years after diagnosis, Gary still cancer-free

Kelly Gary is a mom, a teacher, a lifelong Elbert County native and, for the past two years, a breast cancer survivor.  Gary was hanging Christmas decorations in 2017 when she felt a lump under her arm.

One-fourth of county’s voters have voted

Almost one-fourth of Elbert County’s registered 12,995 voters have voted early in-person or through absentee ballots as of Monday according to the Elbert County Registrar’s Office.  As of Friday at 5 p.m.

Free COVID-19 testing back in Elberton

The Northeast (Georgia) Health District began free testing again in Elbert County, and the district’s mobile testing unit will be at the Ingles parking lot (old store) side through Friday, Oct. 30. The testing will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. every weekday through Friday, Oct. 30.

BOE is down to two plans

The Elbert County Board of Education (BOE) has narrowed down four plans to update the BOE facilities to just two as of Monday night’s meeting, Superintendent Jon Jarvis said.

Elbert County early voting has started

Early voting for the General Election began Tuesday, Oct. 13, and will last until Friday, Oct. 30 at the Historic Rock Gym. Voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday vote will be held Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tasting rooms

A potential ordinance to allow a conditional use permit in the agriculture zoning district for farm winery tasting rooms to operate in the county could be given to the Elbert County Planning and Zoning Commission at their next meeting according to Elbert County Attorney Bill Daughtry.
