Silverleaf proposal falls short

Land within the Elberton Industrial Park is now back open for potential industry after Silverleaf Health Alternatives, Inc. was not awarded one of the four Class Two licenses available from the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission July 24 for a cannabis cultivation and processing facility.
Elbert County Transit Manager Billy Jones, who has lived in Elberton’s Ward 1 for 37 years, announced he will run for that Ward’s seat in the November election.

Billy Jones announced last week he will be seeking the Elberton City Council seat to represent Ward 1, a seat currently held by Carey Butler.

Rolling on back: BOE to reduce school mill rate to 14.25 mills

Elbert County School Superintendent Jon Jarvis recommended a further reduction in the millage rate Monday night at the board of education’s regular monthly meeting. In last week’s work session Jarvis recommended rolling the millage rate back to 14.529, down from a millage rate of 15.

Police report robbery at CVS

Officers from the Elberton Police Department (EPD) responded to a report of an armed robbery-robbery by intimidation at approximately 11:50 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at CVS Pharmacy located at 232 Elbert St.

State will award medical cannabis production licenses on Saturday

The Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission will  meet Saturday, July 24 to award only six production license contracts to a list of over 70 cannabis cultivators and processors whose applications were submitted by the end of January. Silverleaf Health Alternatives, Inc.

Process is ‘inadequate’

The Elberton City Council said they will be looking into Main Street Elberton’s Façade and Downtown Enhancement Grant Program application after Home Sweet Home owner Jenny Jenkins addressed the council with a complaint about the application process at the city’s meeting.
