Man dies in crash

A two-vehicle collision on Cornell Dairy Drive in Bowman Saturday, Sept. 25 at 12:32 p.m. claimed the life of one of the drivers.

Homecoming queen to be crowned

Friday night Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) will announce the 2021 homecoming queen at halftime of the Elbert County-Haralson football game in the Historic Granite Bowl. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “Bet on the Blue Devils.

Elbert County School Superintendent Jon Jarvis has asked the Elbert County Board of Education to consider retroactively granting 10-day paid leave to any school system employee who tests positive for or who has tested positive for COVID since July 1, 2021.

County slashes health department funds

A motion to approve adjusting the county’s budget for the Elbert County Health Department back to $80,000 after the board slashed the budget to $12,000 for the fiscal year failed for lack of a second during Monday night’s meeting of the Elbert County Board of Commissioners.

City announces expansion of its cable and internet system

City of Elberton Manager Lanier Dunn announced Monday that the city and Elbert County Board of Commissioners’ planned expansion of ElbertonNET services is looking to determine which customers in areas of planned services will subscribe if construction is completed in 2022.

The three members of Elberton’s Salvation Army volunteer corps in New Orleans began their duty last week (Sept. 2) almost completely in the dark. “We got to our hotel and there was no electricity,” said PJo Phelps. “No lights, cold water for showers – but at least we had a toilet.
