The three members of Elberton’s Salvation Army volunteer corps in New Orleans began their duty last week (Sept. 2) almost completely in the dark. “We got to our hotel and there was no electricity,” said PJo Phelps. “No lights, cold water for showers – but at least we had a toilet.

Schools going virtual

The Elbert County School District (ECSD) will transition to virtual learning Thursday, Sept. 2 and Friday, Sept. 3 due to the current surge in coronavirus cases and subsequent quaratines, ECSD Superintendent Jon Jarvis announced in a press release Monday afternoon.

Ben Maxwell continues battle

What began as a request in February for a temporary permit for a four-wheeler event on property on Quill Road in Bowman has turned into a more than six-month battle between the owner and the Elbert County Board of Commissioners over use of the property.

Pitts will take over as new county manager

Phil Pitts, current chief financial officer (CFO) for the Elbert County Board of Commissioners (BOC) was unanimously approved as the new county administrator by the BOC during a called meeting Aug. 26.

Development Authority approves $42 million solar project bond

The Development Authority of Elbert County, Elberton and Bowman approved to issue a $42 million revenue bond on behalf of Sony Solar LLC, who was approved in 2019 to place a solar project on 473 acres between Longstreet Road and State Route 79.   The bond, payable at 6 percent to mature on Dec.

County purchasing internet services for Bobby Brown Park

Visitors at Bobby Brown Park will soon have access to internet connection when the City of Elberton further expands ElbertonNET services to yurts and other areas of Bobby Brown after an agreement between the city and the Elbert County Board of Commissioners was approved at Monday night’s meeting.
