Council sparks controversy over clerk

By Rose Scoggins  rscoggins@elberton.com   The City of Bowman is expected to hold a called meeting Thursday at 5 p.m. to revisit a nomination for city clerk, according to Mayor Scott Harpold, after the nomination was not accepted by council members during Monday night's meeting.

Bowman poultry lawsuit continues, TPO dismissed

Franklin County poultry developer Aubery Lunsford, through his attorney Daniel Moore, of Hartwell, has filed a "motion to set aside, motion to vacate, or in the alternative, motion to reconsider," in a lawsuit against the City of Bowman and Lunsford by Arthur and Jennifer Lane.

Elbert Memorial Hospital (EMH) was recently awarded a Patient Safety and Quality award as well as the Circle of Excellence award for sustained commitment to patient safety and quality by the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA).

EMH Foundation to host annual Casino Night Saturday

The Elbert Memorial Hospital Foundation will hold its third annual Casino Night Saturday, Jan. 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Historic Rock Gym.  The evening will include gaming such as a poker, craps, roulette and more, as well as food, drinks and music.

Star reporter Mark Wells promoted to Sports Editor

Reporter Mark Wells has been promoted to sports editor, effective Jan. 22, editor/publisher Rose Scoggins recently announced.  "Mark has been a tremendous asset to The Elberton Star overall, but especially through his sports coverage," Scoggins said.
This year's theme featured the theme "The Dream Starts with Me" with many floats and cars featuring posters with the theme. The parade was the only event held for the 2024 Unity Celebration as the rest of the events were canceled. The parade had been canceled as well, but thanks to overwhelming support from the community, it went on as planned. (Photos by Scoggins)
