Voters to decide beer, wine sales in November

First Friday Follies

Dozens of people turned out for the June First Friday event sponsored by Main Street Elberton to enjoy Lara Smith with Local Honey.  Crystal Bebee, director of Main Street Elberton, felt the event was a success. "They always bring out a great crowd and this past Friday was no different.

The Elberton Star was recently honored by the Georgia Press Association with seven awards for the 2023 publication year. Awards were announced at the 2024 Better Newspaper Contest Banquet on Friday, June 7 at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel.

City of Bowman to unveil new Hardman tribute

The City of Bowman will host a ceremony to honor hometown football star Mecole Hardman Jr.  Saturday, June 15  at 3 p.m. The ceremony will feature an unveiling of a nine-foot tall granite tribute piece on the corner of  Hwy. 17 and Hwy. 172 on the Bowman Square.

City council proposes largest budget in city’s history

The Elberton City Council is scheduled to hold the final hearing on the proposed $41 million budget followed by a vote to approve the budget during a June 17 meeting at City Hall at 5:30 p.m.

City council proposes electric rate increases

The City of Elberton is proposing to raise electric rates by an average of three percent as the cost of wholesale power continues to increase and cause a deficit in the electric division, Interim City Manager Kevin Eavenson said during the city’s June 3 budget work session.

Hardman to headline FHF Family Fun Day
