Referendum vote Monday

Elberton’s city council, after a second reading of two ordinances in a called meeting on Monday (Sept. 16, 5:30 p.m.), may approve sending those ordinances to a Nov. 5 city vote that could, for the first time, allow alcohol sales on Sunday in Elberton.

LHR Farms under investigation

Responding to a Georgia Open Records Act request last week, the Georgia Department of Agriculture said that a “case” involving LHR Farms’ fertilizer license “is still under investigagtion” and no records “can be released at this time.

A good month

With 52 admissions, an average daily census of 10.6 patients, 720 total emergency room visits and 886 outpatient visits, Elbert Memorial Hospital got off to a good start in the first month of its 2019-2020 fiscal year, according to Chief Executive Officer Kerry Trapnell.

BOE quick to set its millage rate

The Elbert County Board of Education met for a little over seven minutes in a special called meeting on Thursday, Aug. 29.  Agenda items included a discussion of the millage rate levy for the upcoming fiscal year and personnel information.

Two men have qualified to begin the race for a seat on the Elberton City Council next year.  City Clerk Cindy Churney announced that Terry Burton and Everett Worley had both qualified to run for the vacant seat for Ward 2, currently held by Bobby G. Hunt.

Trapnell to serve on rural health advisory board

Elbert Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer Kerry Trapnell has been selected to serve on the advisory board of the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center at Mercer University School of Medicine.
