DOT replacing bridge on Hartwell Highway

The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) has notified a county landowner of the DOT’s proposed plan to replace a bridge over Coldwater Creek on Georgia Highway 77 (Hartwell Highway) in 2022.

County ordinance on mobile homes approved by BOC

The Elbert County Code of Ordinances will now prohibit the placing of any mobile homes on land not owned by the mobile home owner after the Elbert County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1, with commissioner Chris Alexander voting opposed, to amend the ordinance at Monday night’s regular meeting.

Changes in CNI’s corporate leadership

After 32 years of guiding Community Newspapers Inc. (CNI), co-owners Tom Wood and Dink NeSmith are turning over the corporate leadership to new co-chief executive officers.   Effective July 8, longtime chief financial officer (CFO) and vice president Mark Major will replace NeSmith as president.

Graves to run for mayor

Daniel Graves, who has been at the helm of Elbert Memorial Hospital’s governing body for the better part of the last decade, announced to the hospital authority last week that he would be resigning from his position in August to devote his full time to running for the mayor’s seat in Elberton.

Bowman council approves city employee pay raise

Employees in Bowman will receive a five percent “cost of living” pay increase beginning Thursday, July 1 after the three members remaining on the Bowman City Council voted unanimously to approve the raises at Monday night’s meeting.
