Elbert County is home to three sets of Super Bowl champions after the 6U, 8U and 10U teams from Elbert County Parks and Recreation brought home the championship trophies and rings Saturday, Nov. 20.

Reclassification could bring growth to Region 8AA

Region 8AA could introduce four new teams and drop Riverside Military Academy during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years if the proposed region alignments announced by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) reclassification committee are approved.

While the Lady Devils basketball team finished in the Elite Eight round of the GHSA state playoffs last season with a close 46-45 loss to  reigning state champion Josey, pre-season rankings have placed Elbert at the top of the state list in AA.

Hurlburt excited for Devils’ upcoming season

Elbert County basketball head coach Don Hurlburt said there’s not an aspect of this year’s basketball season and his team of Blue Devils that he’s not excited about. “Forget basketball, I just like being around them. I like going to practice every day,” the coach said.

Elbert County tamed Union County’s Panthers in the Historic Granite Bowl Friday night 52-29 as sophomore quarterback Braydon Scarborough had touchdown throws of 68, 52 and 40 yards and junior running back Quan Moss totaled 154 yards rushing and three touchdown runs on 24 attempts.

‘That way’ to Vidalia and the Sweet Sixteen

The Lady Devils were on fire last Tuesday night. In the first round of the GHSA state playoffs, the host Lady Devils defeated the Washington High School Lady Bulldogs by a combined 31 runs in seven total innings to advance them to the Sweet Sixteen round.
