Tennis teams wrap season in playoffs

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   The Elbert County High School Devils and Lady Devils tennis teams ended their season April 19 after both teams fell in the first round of the GHSA state playoffs.
Elbert County’s Diamond Devils took home the Region 8AA region championship Friday, April 15 after defeating Banks County. The following day, the baseball team traveled to Truist Park in Atlanta, home of the 2021 World Series Champions, the Atlanta Braves, to play against Thomasville High School from Thomasville, Alabama.

A weekend for champions

Lady Devils are Sweet Sixteen-bound after defeating Scholars

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   The Elbert County Lady Devils soccer team is Sweet Sixteen-bound after defeating Elite Scholars Academy (ESA) 2-1 in the historic Granite Bowl April 14. The Lady Devils started strong and in just the fifth minute of the game, bagged their first goal.

Golf teams preparing for ‘massive’ matches ahead of upcoming area championships

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   The Elbert County Devils and Lady Devils golf teams are scheduled to have what Head Coach Larry Kesler said will be “massive” matches in the upcoming week as both teams prepare to send golfers to the area championship tournament April 26 and May 3.

Tennis teams finish third, fourth in region to advance to state playoffs

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   The Elbert County High School Lady Devils and Devils tennis teams finished region play as the third and fourth seeds during the region tournament March 12 at Rabun County High School.
The Lady Devils soccer team made program history Friday, April 8 as they defeated Rabun County’s Lady Wildcats to finish as the region runners-up for the second time in program history, giving them the opportunity to host the first round of the GHSA state playoffs. The first round will be held Thursday, April 14 in the Granite Bowl at 5:30 p.m. as the Lady Devils host Elite Scholars Academy. Tickets are $7. (Photo by Wells)
