GHSA moves Elbert to A classification

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) reclassification committee threw a wrench in classifications and alignments for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years last week that would drop Elbert County from Class AA to Class A.

Lady Devils down reigning state champs

After preparing for the long-awaited rematch against the reigning state champion Josey High School Lady Eagles, the Lady Devils served sweet revenge on Saturday, Dec. 4 for last season’s 46-45 loss in the Elite Eight round of the GHSA state playoffs with a 48-45 win in the Inferno Saturday, Dec. 4.

Devils get first win at home over Josey

Coach Don Hurlburt’s young team of Devil basketball players secured their first win at home and second for the season after defeating Josey 56-41 Saturday, Dec. 11 in the Inferno. “We needed that one,” Hurlburt said. “That was a good win.

Mat Devils take down Harlem, Athens Christian

The Elbert County Comprehensive High School Mat Devils took down Harlem and Athens Christian during a host match Tuesday, Nov. 30 in the Inferno. The Devils finished the night beating Harlem 50-22 and Athens Christian 45-32.
Kane Hughes was named the player of the game against East Forsyth after putting up 15 points for the Devils Nov. 27.

Devils start season 1-2, Lady Devils 2-1

The Elbert County Blue Devils and Lady Devils basketball teams kicked off their seasons with the Devils going 1-2 and the Lady Devils 2-1 after three games. The Devils lost the first game of the season 72-63 against Heritage from Conyers in the first home game of the season Friday, Nov. 19.

Mat Devils start season with a series of scrambles

The Elbert County Mat Devils kicked off the 2021-22 season with a series of scrambles at home in the Inferno and on the road at Jackson County and North Oconee. During the Panther Scramble, the first event of the season Nov.

Elbert County is home to three sets of Super Bowl champions after the 6U, 8U and 10U teams from Elbert County Parks and Recreation brought home the championship trophies and rings Saturday, Nov. 20.

Reclassification could bring growth to Region 8AA

Region 8AA could introduce four new teams and drop Riverside Military Academy during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years if the proposed region alignments announced by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) reclassification committee are approved.
