Mat Devils host Granite City Duals

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   The Elbert County Mat Devils grabbed wins over area opponent Rabun County, AA’s Morgan County and Crescent of Iva, South Carolina in the Granite City Duals Dec. 21 and had three different wrestlers go undefeated on the day.

Devils get first region win, beat Hart County on the road

Elbert County’s Blue Devils basketball team picked up back-to-back wins over the weekend, getting their first region win of the season over Athens Academy Dec. 20 and getting payback against Hart County on the road Dec. 21.

Lady Devils earn 12th consecutive win

Elbert County’s Lady Devils are 12-0 on the season after finishing off a season-sweep of Hart County Dec. 21 and picking up their fourth region win of the season over 10th-ranked Athens Academy Dec. 20.

Win No. 9 keeps streak burning

The Lady Devils are off to their best start to a season in over a decade after beating Hart County by a score of 54-23 in the Inferno Dec. 14.  The win over the Lady Dogs moved Elbert’s record to a perfect 9-0 on the season.

Four Lady Devils named to GACA all-state team

Elbert County’s Lady Devils softball team had a total of four athletes who were named to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-State Team Dec. 10.  Sophomores Audrey Lunsford and Ky Dubose were both named second-team all-state as infielders.

Blue Devil comeback falls just short against Bulldogs

The Elbert County Blue Devils basketball team came up three points short of a comeback win over rival Hart County after trailing by over 14 points at the start of the final quarter of play.

Lady Devils extend streak to six

Elbert County’s Lady Devils basketball team are off to a scorching 6-0 start and are back among Sandy’s Spiel’s Top 5-ranked teams in the state for the first time since the final rankings of the 2022-2023 season that saw the Lady Devils make a Final Four appearance.

Mat Devils finish second at Panther Invitational

The Elbert County Mat Devils finished second as a team at the annual Panther Invitational hosted by Jackson County after finishing the tournament with a total of 10 individual placers Dec. 7.  The Devils finished second with 161 points,  behind only Jackson County who finished with 211 points.

Devils to see Banks Friday

Elbert County’s Blue Devils basketball team has their sights set on earning their first region win of the season as Banks County comes to town for a region matchup in the Inferno Friday, Dec. 13.
