Bowman City Clerk Crystal Duck was terminated at Monday night’s regular meeting of the Bowman City Council after being previously suspended without pay for insubordination.  According to a written notice Duck received from Mayor Roberta Rice Tuesday, Jan.

Decision time for county

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners have a lot of decisions to make in the upcoming months surrounding issues with a proposed ordinance on hemp farming and processing, repairs to the courthouse bell tower and where the Cooperative Extension service could be relocated.  In a called meeting Jan.

Elbert County’s Emma Albertson is one of 40 youth members from across the country, and the only one from Georgia, to be selected to participate in the American Quarter Horse Youth Association’s (AQHYA) 2021 Young Horse Development Program (YHD).

Bagwell: Andrews showed no respect

Returning to the Elbert County Board of Education meeting Monday night with about 50 parents and students backing him, Kyle Bagwell repeated his position that the school board should re-hire Elbert County Middle School SRO (school resource officer) Marc Fleming.

The Northeast Health District, including the Elbert County Health Department, is currently scheduling appointments for those in Phase 1A of the state's rollout plan for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Marunich takes over as Elberton’s Chief of Police

The Elberton Police Department (EPD) is under new leadership as Scott Marunich became the official chief of the department Jan. 4.  Although in a new role, Marunich is no stranger to the EPD. Marunich was hired by now-retired Chief Mark Welsh in July of 2000.

Band, chorus hope to perform at Pearl Harbor

Elbert County Comprehensive High School's Blue Devil Band and Chorus had been invited to perform at the 80th Annual Pearl Harbor Commemoration in Honolulu, Hawaii on Dec. 7, 2021, but, after talking with organizers in Hawaii, the band’s invitation has been extended to the 81st Annual Commemoration.
