Mat Devils ready for traditionals

With dual season officially in the rearview mirrow, the Elbert County Mat Devils are turning their attention to traditional season with the Area 8A Traditional tournament scheduled for Jan. 30 in Commerce. The Devils capped off dual season on a high note Jan. 17, finishing second in the state.

Lady Devils run out of steam against Athens Academy

The Elbert County girls’ basketball team came up short against Athens Academy at home Friday, dropping a region matchup 62-55 to the 16-2 Lady Spartans. The Lady Devils are now 12-6 overall including a 3-4 mark in region play.

Blue Devils pick up home win over Athens Academy

The Elbert County boys’ basketball team pulled out a thrilling 58-55 home victory over Athens Academy in front of its home Inferno crowd Friday night. The win brings the Blue Devils to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in the region while Athens is now 13-6 and 2-4 in region play. Senior A.J.

Elbert County Emergency Management Agency director Chuck Almond said Tuesday afternoon the county is anticipating a winter weather storm this weekend. Another Elbert County EMA briefing is scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Rams cap off perfect regular season, Lady Rams in semis

The Elbert County middle school seventh grade boys’ basketball team finished the regular season an undefeated 12-0, its first such finish since the 2014-15 season. The Rams will play in the NEGIAA region championships held Saturday, Jan.

Lady Devils sweep Franklin, gearing up for region gauntlet

Region play is here for the Elbert County girls’ basketball team, and with it comes some tough tests that have big-time ramifications for the Lady Devils’ season. The Lady Devils traveled to Commerce on Tuesday to take on the Lady Tigers and came up short 45-38.

Mat Devils moving on to State Duals

The Elbert County wrestling team is moving on to the Class A State Championship Duals this weekend after finishing second place at the Area 8A Duals, which they hosted at The Inferno Jan. 10.

Elbert County hosts 2026 Twilight Stroll

The Elbert County Chamber of Commerce's annual Twilight Stroll by the Granite Bowl 5K was held Jan. 9, sporting the largest turnout for the event since the COVID pandemic.

Elbert County Board of Commissioners pulls hospital referendum

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a motion that was made by Chris Alexander and seconded by Casey Freeman to overturn a previously approved resolution that would add a referendum to ballots in May to provide one mill of support to Elbert Memorial Hospital (EMH).
