Shootings around Bowman Highway leave two dead

A pair of shootings took place over the weekend that left two dead and one injured. According to a press release by Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond, Elbert County E911 received a call just before 4 p.m. on Nov. 29 reporting a male who had been shot near Martin Villa Drive and Pleasant Hill Road.

Mat Devils host first home meet of new season

The Elbert County wrestling team hosted the Granite City Scramble at the Inferno on Saturday, its first home meet of the 2025-26 season. Elbert finished fifth overall, while Mountain View claimed the top team spot. Five Mat Devils finished in the top two of their respective events.

Non-profits help keep Elbert County beautiful for Thanksgiving

A pair of Elbert County non-profit organizations proved that Elbert County residents have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season as they partnered with Keep Elbert County Beautiful to clean up a pair of roads.

Blue Devils take down Oglethorpe in first round of GHSA State Playoffs

The Elbert County Blue Devils are moving on. Elbert defeated Oglethorpe 24-7 Friday night in the Granite Bowl in the first round of the GHSA state playoffs. The Blue Devils dominated on the ground and dictated the pace of the game all night, rushing for 269 yards as a team.

Elbert JROTC Raiders finish first in nation in rope bridge

The Elbert County JROTC Raiders will soon be sporting some new bling on their pinky fingers. The team finished first place in the rope bridge competition at the All Service Raider National Tournament Nov. 2 in Molena. Lt. Col J.D.
