Trapnell updates county commissioners

Elbert Memorial Hospital CEO Kerry Trapnell gave an update on the hospital since receiving its critical access designation to the Elbert County Board of Commissioners at their work session on March 5.

Permit fees rejected

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 against a proposed permit fee schedule at Monday night’s meeting with commissioners Casey Freeman Jr., Chris Alexander and Kenneth Ashworth opposing.

Berryman is historic qualifier

Eight Republicans and one Democrat qualified for county offices Monday in the first day of primary qualifying in Elbert County. Of the eight Republicans, a first-time candidate, JeriLyn Berryman, qualified as the first woman to ever run for the office of Sheriff in Elbert County.

Humble Beginnings

LaMarcus Hall, a 2002 graduate of Elbert County Comprehensive High School who went on to obtain an undergraduate degree, two graduate degrees and his working to finish a doctoral program, said he is “a proud product of Elberton, Georgia.

Storm drain projects abound in town

In the rainiest of rainy seasons storm drains are getting plenty of attention from the Elberton City Council.

Davis recalls childhood neighborhood

Randolph Davis was around six or seven years old when his family moved into his grandparents’ house at 225 Elbert Street. It was around 1952 or 1953 and his grandmother Selina had just passed away.

Qualifying to begin

Qualifying for offices in the 2020 election will take place next week, March 2-6. Offices open for the 2020 election season that will appear on the Elbert County voter’s ballot include the offices for: • Sheriff. Melvin Andrews is the incumbent. The qualifying fee is $1,779.86.

Recovered Materials Company, LLC, a company operating at Broad River Valley Farms that recently signed a consent order with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), has also been placed on probation by the Georgia Department of Agriculture (DOA) through a consent order with that agency.
