Johnson, Albertson, Huff appointed

Three new administrators were named in three different Elbert County schools at Monday night’s Elbert County Board of Education work session. The new director at the Paul J. Blackwell Learning Center is Dr. Audrey Johnson, who will be replacing Dr. Sonya Barnett.

Mecole Hardman silent auction will raise funds for FHF

Tickets are on sale at the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce for the Friends Helping Friends (FHF) Silent Auction Saturday, March 20 featuring Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who competed in his second Super Bowl in two years Feb. 7.

Thomas and McAvoy resign

Dr. Dan McAvoy of The Medical Center (TMCE) of Elberton and Elbert County Administrator Bob Thomas each submitted a letter of resignation to the Elbert County Board of Health (ECBH) last week at ECBH’s monthly meeting.

Andrews wants new jail

State lifts TMCE suspension

After a flurry of phone calls and texts with Gov. Brian Kemp’s and Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) Commissioner Kathleen Toomey’s offices Thursday, The Medical Center of Elberton (TMCE)   will be able to resume its vaccination program next month after accepting an offer from DPH.

‘The issue is over’

A disagreement on approving the minutes from the City of Bowman’s Jan. 25 return to general session after holding an executive session that included a no-vote to reinstate former city clerk Crystal Duck sparked an outcry from council members and the public at Monday’s regular meeting.

Local clean water advocates keep eye on permit process

GRP Madison Renewable Energy Facility (GRP) in Colbert is applying for a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit (NPDES No. GA0050283)) from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Protection Division (EPD).
