Always in back of her mind, teaching was Amber’s goal

Instead of discussing who would be the line leader each day, or in their case, who would sit in the front seat during a car ride, Amber Drake Trotter and her three siblings had a seating chart of who got to sit where in their minivan.

The switch from farming to granite a ‘lifestyle change’

The decision to go into the granite business for Calvin Hill and his son, Mark, really had nothing to do with how much money they thought they might make. “It never was about money – it was about a lifestyle,” said Mark of his late father’s desire to form Hillcrest Granite in 1979.

Coach and teacher, Turman follows in parents’ footsteps

Devon Turman never thought he’d be back at Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) as one of this year’s newest teachers and coaches. Turman, who was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and has lived in Elberton since he was four years old.
