Carter is state award-winning music composer

Elbert County Comprehensive High School senior Kristopher Carter was one of just 14 students from all age groups across the state to win the Georgia Music Educators Association’s (GMEA) highly competitive composition contest in January.
Elbert County native James Freddy Allen was recently promoted to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services at Morris Brown College in Atlanta. Allen is using his position to give back to students and attributes his success to his Elbert County roots.

Deputy gets DUI after crash in county patrol car

An Elbert County Sheriff’s deputy has been suspended without pay pending an internal investigation after being arrested and charged with a DUI following an accident in his patrol car in Athens-Clarke County Feb. 9.

Commissioners add budget line item to pay for disputed auto parts

An additional line item in the county’s budget was established during Monday’s county commission meeting in order to pay for $545 in auto parts for vehicles from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office after Sheriff Melvin Andrews objected to which store the parts were purchased from.

BOE hires additional officers, approves $10 million bond

The Elbert County School District is now equipped with six school resource officers and a part-time substitute officer after the Elbert County Board of Education (BOE) approved the sixth officer and part-time position during Monday night’s meeting.

Development authority extends Silverleaf agreement for a year

The Development Authority of Elbert County, Elberton and Bowman extended its purchase and sale  agreement with Silverleaf Health Alternatives Inc. to Nov. 30, 2022, in light of the company’s post-award protest for a Class Two production license from the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission.
