Marine Osprey makes unexpected stop

By Mark Wells mwells@elberton.com   The Elbert Couny Airport hosted some unexpected visitors June 15 after a pair of United States Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 had to make an unscheduled stop due to a mechanical issue.

Board seeking to fill District 1 vacancy

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners are looking to fill the vacant seat on the commission for District 1 after former Commissioner Horace Harper passed away June 10.

The Star wins awards in the Georgia Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest

The Elberton Star took home two first place awards and a second and third place award during the Georgia Press Association’s (GPA) Better Newspaper Contest. Editor Rose Scoggins won first place for photo portfolio out of all the weekly papers in the state who entered the competition.

Hospital Authority to meet Friday at noon

The Elberton-Elbert County Hospital Authority will meet during a called meeting Friday, June 10 at noon in the Charles Ruff Room at Elbert Memorial Hospital. The meeting was announced via email to authority members as well as members of local news organizations Tuesday, May 31.
