Hospital budget approved

After a lengthy discussion during their June 28 meeting, the Elberton-Elbert County Hospital Authority approved the 2023 fiscal year (FY) budget that features over $23 million in net revenue and just shy of $23 million in total operating expenses.

City of Bowman to hold hearing for subdivision rezone request

A rezone request for 299 acres in the Bowman city limits could bring a 50-plot subdivision, 23 plots of “high density, multi-family dwellings,” and a self-storage facility if approved by the Bowman City Council. The property fronts both Georgia Highway 17 and West Hendricks Street in Bowman.

County delays approving budget

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to approve a resolution continuing the 2022 fiscal year budget into the 2023 fiscal year during a called meeting at noon today as they are not yet ready to approve the upcoming budget by Friday’s July 1 deadline.

An ‘Ocean of possibilities’ and new friends

The show included a collection of parrots from South America and Africa and was part of the library’s summer reading program. Wheeler said 43 children and their guardians were in attendance during the show and all loved meeting the birds.

Bowman approves ARPA spending for Medlink pharmacy

The Bowman City Council, less council members Mary Clark and Betty Jo Maxwell, who were attending a Georgia Municipal Association conference, approved a $23,716.30 invoice from Medlink for work done to create a pharmacy and do painting in the city-owned building during Monday night’s meeting.

Children in the Elbert County Community Friends’ summer activities program received a lesson in chemistry from Elbert County’s own chemist, Pamela Brown, Monday, June 20 at the Mill Street Gym. Brown performed an experiment that allowed children to blow up balloons by having baking soda in the balloons mix with vinegar in a recycled water bottle. The Elbert County Board of Education approved its $61 million 2023 fiscal year budget along with over $1.2 million in purchases for further projects, equipment and buses during Monday night’s regular meeting.
