Higginbotham named high-point winner for 2025

Elbert County Comprehensive High School Senior and FFA Livestock Competitor Leah Higginbotham was named the state's high point winner in the Senior Dairy Showmanship Point Circuit for 2024-2025 at the Georgia Junior Livestock Foundation Expo Dec. 10 through Dec. 13.
Elbert County School District (ECSD) went off to Christmas break in style as students around the county donned their "Christmas best." Students and teachers at Elbert County Primary School, Elbert County Elementary School, Elbert County Middle School and Elbert County Comprehensive High School dressed up for various themed days as the break drew nearer. The Elbert County girls’ basketball team went 2-1 in its three games last week, putting their record at 8-1 as region play ramps up. The Lady Devils opened the week on Tuesday night with a home matchup against Rabun County, who came into the game with a six game winning streak.

The Elbert County boys’ basketball team saw its record fall to 4-6 after a four-game losing streak. The Blue Devils are now 1-2 in region play, which currently slots them at fifth place in Region 8-A Division I. Elbert hosted Rabun County last Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The Elbert County wrestling team has won its first four dual matches to start the 2025-2026 campaign, along with some encouraging results in its early-season tournaments. The Mat Devils hosted Johnson and Cedar Shoals on Dec. 10 for a dual meet and got the win in both.

The Elbert County boys’ basketball team started its region schedule in the win column with an 84-75 win at home against Providence Christian Academy on Friday night. Four Blue Devils scored in double figures in a big offensive performance where the Blue Devils rode a late surge to victory.

Drug Court holds commencement at Elberton First Methodist Church

The Northern Judicial Circuit hosted a commencement ceremony Dec. 11 for people who have just completed the circuit's Felony Drug Court program. The program offers offenders who are addicted to drugs or alcohol an opportunity to rehabilitate.
