Brown reaches 1,000 career points, Blue Devils await playoff seeding

Elbert County basketball came up short in the first round of the region tournament against Banks County Monday night, losing 55-43 at Piedmont University in Demorest. Though Elbert’s run in the region tournament was cut short, they will still likely land in the GHSA state tournament.

Elbert County Primary School kindergarten registration scheduled

Kindergarten registration for Elbert County Primary School will become available in less than a month according to the Elbert County School District.  Online registration is set to open Monday, March 16. It can be found on the school district’s website www.elbert.k12.ga.

VFW holds Valentines dinner, announces winners

The Pulliam-Burton VFW Post 5456 hosted an 80th anniversary celebration and an inauguration of the Elbert County Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center in conjunction with Valentine’s Day.

Blue Devils sports spring into action

Though spring hasn’t quite sprung yet in Elbert County, several spring sports are getting their 2026 seasons underway. Elbert’s defending state champion boys’ golf team will tee off its title defense on Feb. 21, when they travel to Jekyll Island for the Johnny Paulk Invite.

Lady Devils surge in wins over Warren, Commerce

An offensive barrage with swarming defense lifted the Elbert County girls’ basketball team to a 74-47 win over Warren County last Wednesday night, and the Lady Devils kept rolling with a 52-37 win over Commerce the following Friday.

Hoop Devils stun Commerce, snap Warren's win streak

The Elbert County basketball team earned perhaps its biggest win of the season Friday night with an 85-83 overtime victory over Commerce. The Blue Devils handed the Tigers their first region loss of the 2025-26 season. “Huge win,” head coach Chris Owens said.

Mat Devils send 11 to state

A total of 11 Elbert County wrestlers are officially moving on to the Georgia Class A state tournament. The Mat Devils finished third out of 39 teams at the Class A Section A tournament last Saturday at Commerce High School.

Layne named Miss ECCHS

Elbert County Comprehensive High School senior Lila Layne was named Miss ECCHS 2026. The Miss ECCHS Pageant was held Feb. 7 and featured a host of winners in addition to Miss ECCHS. The first runner-up was I'jianah Whiten and second runner-up was Carlee Brown.

Pre-K registration scheduled for March 11 and 12

Paul J. Blackwell Learning Center is hosting a Pre-K Registration Kick Off March 11 and 12. The event is scheduled to be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days at Paul J. Blackwell Learning Center. Children who are four years old by Sept. 1 are eligible to register.
