Students returned to Elbert County Schools Friday

Elbert County Schools got back underway Friday after Summer Break, bringing a start to the 2026-2027 school year. Superintendent Robert Wheeler said that 2,887 students were enrolled in the district as of the July 31 start date. 

Election dates announced for Nov. 3 Elbert County general election

The Elbert County Board of Elections Office has announced voting dates for the upcoming Nov. 3 general election. Elections Supervisor Hannah Johnson said the earliest date voters can get an absentee ballot application is Aug. 17.

Mure Cho comes to Elberton

The Elberton/Mure Cho Sister City student exchange program is underway and the Japanese delegation has arrived in Elbert County.According to an itinerary provided by Tom Evans, Japanese students, Tomoki Arioka and Anna Kubo, and chaperone Yoko Morita, arrived in Atlanta July 20.
