Elberton native and three-time Super Bowl champion Mecole Hardman Jr. returned to his hometown Saturday, June 20 for “Football Fun Day” at McWilliams Park. Kids aged 6-16 attended. The day featured football drills, a water slide, food vendors and more lasting from 9 a.m. to noon.

Elbert County approves budget, gives raise to EMS

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners approved their annual budget June 18 and added a $2-an-hour raise for EMS employees in an effort to combat staffing shortages facing the department.

City of Elberton approves FY 27 budget in Monday meeting

The city of Elberton presented its budget for the fiscal year 2027 this month and held two related hearings June 1 and June 15.The budget was adopted Monday.The city’s total budget is $45,153,176, up 2.4% from fiscal year 2026. The new fiscal year begins July 1, 2026 and ends June 30, 2027.

What was once old is new again and American Mah Jongg is roaring back. In 1928, Joseph Babcock returned from Southeast Asia and brought with him the popular game of “Mahjong,” which had been played there since the mid-to-late 19th century.

The Juneteenth holiday is on the horizon and the Jim-Ree Museum brought the festivities to Elbert County this past weekend with their annual Juneteenth Celebration.The theme for this year's celebration was "Together We Rise" and included a festival and parade.

The Elbert County Little League coach pitch All-Stars played in the Northeast Georgia sectional tournament in Evans from June 4-6. Elbert County played Oconee County both days, officially ending the season.
