Leverett to serve on committee leadership

Former ‘Mr. Blue Devil’ dies after Hartwell shooting

Former “Mr. Blue Devil” of the Elbert County Comprehensive High School (ECCHS) Class of 2017 Joseph Johnson, 25, was one of two people who died after an early Monday morning shooting in Hartwell.

The Elberton Star releases The Georgia Guidestones special edition

The Elberton Star has released a special edition surrounding the recent bombing and demolition of the Georgia Guidestones. The edition includes a history of the monument, historical and submitted photos as well as other news stories and community reactions.

Despite the granite plaque at the Georgia Guidestones advertising a time capsule was allegedly buried at the site, there was no evidence of any buried history when digging occurred Friday morning.

GHSA moves Elbert to A classification

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) reclassification committee threw a wrench in classifications and alignments for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years last week that would drop Elbert County from Class AA to Class A.

Star publisher passes away

The Elberton Star Publisher Gary Scott Jones, 64, passed away Monday at Augusta University Medical Center.
Jones suffered from a medical emergency Friday night after covering the Elbert County Blue Devils’ football game against Riverside Military Academy in the Granite Bowl.
