The Georgia Chamber of Commerce announced its 2022 Legislators of the Year. These awards are given to those elected officials who focus their legislative efforts on enacting policies that promote economic development, free enterprise and job creation throughout the state. These legislators are voted on by the Executive Committee of the Georgia Chamber’s Government Affairs Council (GAC), the body that both determines the organization’s legislative agenda, and directs the positions the organization takes on specific legislation.

Each year, the Georgia Chamber awards one state Senate member, one state House member and one freshman legislator as their Legislators of the Year. This year’s recipients are Senator Larry Walker (Perry), Representative Robert Dickey (Musella), and Representative Rob Leverett (Elberton), respectively.

“I’m proud to be a pro-business, pro-jobs legislator, and I’m honored by this recognition,” said Rep. Leverett. “My priority will remain keeping our economy running by ensuring Georgia businesses prosper and economic opportunities are afforded to all Georgians. I look forward to the continued partnership with the Chamber and the business community to keep Georgia the number one state in which to do business for years to come.”

Senator Walker stated, “Throughout my tenure in the State Senate, I have held my relationship with the Georgia Chamber and the business community in the highest regard. I’m honored to receive this esteemed award from an organization who understands the unique relationship that business and government must maintain to ensure our continued successes for our job creators, workforce and families alike.”

Rep. Dickey remarked, “I’m honored to be recognized as the House Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Chamber. It is crucial during this time of recovery that we focus on businesses and employers as the drivers of Georgia’s economy. I look forward to continuing to work with the Georgia Chamber to enact smart, flexible policy to help us recover and make our state more resilient.”

Along with his Freshman Legislator of the Year award, Leverett was also named to GOPAC’s 2022 Class of Emerging Leaders.

Leverett is one of 25 legislators and one of two legislators from Georgia named to the group.

Nominated by the legislative leadership in their state, these legislators have demonstrated promise in positively impacting their state and rising within the Republican ranks.

“As Americans are seeking solutions to the issues our communities face, our 2022 Class of Emerging Leaders has an excellent opportunity to advance ideas to make the lives of their constituents easier, safer, and better,” said GOPAC Chairman David Avella. “We welcome being part of their development and doing our part to support their success.”

The prestigious GOPAC Emerging Leaders Program is a year-long initiative to educate the next generation of Republican legislators. The Program equips these legislators with information to help legislate more effectively and ultimately achieve leadership roles within their state or run for higher office.

“GOPAC is a Republican state and local political training organization,” according to their website.

As part of the group, Leverett has the chance to attend an “Emerging Leaders Summit” in Santa Barbara, California June 27-29.
