Blue Devils take down Oglethorpe in first round of GHSA State Playoffs

The Elbert County Blue Devils are moving on.
Elbert defeated Oglethorpe 24-7 Friday night in the Granite Bowl in the first round of the GHSA state playoffs. The Blue Devils dominated on the ground and dictated the pace of the game all night, rushing for 269 yards as a team.

Elbert's Jeannie Jourolmon named Region 8A Division 1 Athletic Director of the Year

Elbert County athletic director Jeannie Jourolmon was recognized as the 2024–2025 Region 8A Division 1 Athletic Director of the Year at the region athletic directors’ semiannual meeting.
Jourolmon was voted the winner by the rest of the Region 8A Division 1 athletic directors.

Elbert board of commissioners hold hearings, approval scheduled for Thursday

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners held the first and second of three hearings scheduled as a result of an increase of property taxes, with the final hearing, and subsequent approval millage rate scheduled for tomorrow.

Elbert's Larry Kesler named GHSA girls’ golf coach of the year

Larry Kesler has transformed Elbert County golf, and he has the hardware to prove it.
The Blue Devils’ golf coach, a position he has held since 2020, was recently named the GHSA Coach of the Year for girls’ golf, a statewide award spanning all classifications.

Elbert County board of education sees slight decrease in millage rate

The Elbert County board of education announced a decrease in its millage rate by about half a mill during its monthly meeting Monday, bringing it down from 14 to 13.48.
Superintendent Robert Wheeler said the board is meeting Thursday to officially approve the new millage rate.

Lady Devils flag football team splits two games at home

The Blue Devils may have been off preparing for the playoffs, but there was still gridiron action at the Granite Bowl last week as the Elbert County Lady Devils flag football team continued its inaugural season as a program, hosting Cedar Shoals for two games.

Bills sign Mecole Hardman Jr. to practice squad

Elberton native and veteran NFL wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. is back in the NFL.
The three-time Super Bowl champion signed with the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad on Monday per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Buffalo is currently 6-3 and second in the AFC East.
